HySA/Catalysis
HySA Catalysis is one of the three Centres of Competence that form part of the South African Department of Science and Technology’s National Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Technologies Flagship project, branded as Hydrogen South Africa (HySA). The overall aim is to establish a fuel cell related market in South Africa, adding high value to the country’s mineral wealth. HySA Catalysis’ mandate includes the components in the early part of the value chain, catalysts and catalytic devices.HySA Catalysis combines the expertise of the Centre for Catalysis Research of the University of Cape Town and South Africa’s national mineral research organisation, Mintek. HySA Catalysis has world-class laboratories. Facilities include a state-of-the art analytical suite, surface science facility, MEA preparation equipment, eight fuel cell test stations, potentiostats for electrochemical analysis, reactor units in different configurations and a high throughput synthesis and testing facility. HySA Catalysis comprises over 30 people. This group is ever expanding and combines the skills of renowned international fuel cell experts and local researchers
