Hydrogen South Africa (HYSA) has developed scooters that are powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The South African postal services (SAPO) will make use of these scooters in alliance with the “Green Transport Strategy for South Africa 2018-2030”.

The development will increase the range and productivity of the current battery electric scooters – which will have supply of hydrogen in metal hydride storages onboard and are estimated to cost between R 12 000 – R 13 500 ($ 900 – $ 1000), according to 2013 International Energy Agency (IEA) estimations.
